Archdeacon Lloyd to Visit Riga,
Meet with Congregation
We will be welcoming two officials of the Anglican Church to Riga on Tuesday, August 10. They are the Reverend Jonathan Lloyd, Archdeacon of Germany and Northern Europe, and the Reverend Nicholas Howe, Area Dean of the Nordic and Baltic States of the Diocese in Europe.
A series of meetings is planned for that day, and the entire congregation is invited to meet with Archdeacon Lloyd in the church at 7 p.m. This will be an excellent opportunity to pose questions to the archdeacon, discuss current issues in the congregation and its relationship with the diocese, and define a strategy for the future. All congregation members are welcome!

Archdeacon Jonathan Lloyd visits Riga
The new Archdeacon of Germany and Northern Europe, the Venerable Jonathan Lloyd, visited St. Saviour’s Church in Riga on Jan. 30 and 31.
On Jan. 30, he met with Pastor Juris Cālītis and the church council to discuss the future of the congregation. On Jan. 31, he was guest speaker at the church service and afterward met with members of the congregation.
The Reverend Jonathan Lloyd was appointed to his new position on January 20, and we are very honored by the fact that he selected our congregation as the first to visit in his role as archdeacon. He had the opportunity to learn about the congregation, the soup kitchen, and the seniors’ club, and offered many useful suggestions for ensuring that our congregation will survive this difficult period and flourish in the future.

British Christmas Celebration
at the Anglican Church
On December 10, 2009, the British Chamber of Commerce and British Embassy held its traditional carol service at the Church of St. Saviour.
The candlelight service, led by Pastor Juris Calitis, was well attended. Prominent members of the British community in Latvia took part, reading Bible passages to the congregation. In addition to the traditional carols sung, special guests, including Mārtiņa koris, provided music to make this event a festive one.

70th birthday of Pastor Juris Calitis
Pastor Juris Calitis is so full of energy and vitality that many people found it hard to believe that he turned 70 on December 14, 2009. The event was celebrated in grand style on Sunday, December 13, when dozens of congregation members, friends, relatives, supporters and young people from the Zvannieki shelter turned out to congratulate him.
