70th birthday of Pastor Juris Calitis
is a grand celebration

The celebration started early in the day, after the 11 a.m. service at the Anglican Church in Riga. Santa Claus himself, portrayed by Canadian Ambassador Scott Heatherington, was on hand to congratulate the pastor, along with other members of the St. Saviour congregation.
The celebration continued a few hours later outside Riga at Zvannieki, a shelter for young people that is run by Pastor Calitis and his wife, Sandra Dzenite-Calite. The festivities included speeches, musical and dance performances, and a huge birthday cake. Among the performers were an ancient dance ensemble and Latvian National Opera soloist Evita Zalite-Raiskuma. The large hall at Zvannieki was packed for this special event.
